I know what you are thinking...surely the answer is going to be, with a magic wand!
Actually, no, there are some really easy things you can do in your day to day life, that will do just that...
- Meat Free Monday: Have you heard of it? Meat is one of the most expensive items in a weekly food shop, so if you can cut this out a couple of days a week, you will soon see a saving. As meat also contributes, between 13 & 18%, to greenhouse gas emmissions, you will be making a greener choice too!
- Carry a re-usable water bottle: Surely everyone does this now! Bottled water is actually expensive, especially when you can get it from a tap for next to nothing. If you need a top-up while you are out and about too - head into any café and they will fill it for you. We buy on average 1,000,000 plastic bottles per minute - let's cut that down to 0.
- Upcycle & Recycle: We are so used to chucking everything away as soon as it is broken or out of fashion. Don't! There are so many cool ways to use your old things - make a new cushion for the old chair, rub it down and paint it, or turn it into something completely new. The same with clothes, spill something down them? - Get creative with dye, or add a patch. Rip your jeans, add a few more and make them distressed.
- Re-usable skincare: Makeup wipes & cotton pads are the easy choice, but you probably use over 1,000 per year. Not only is that expensive, it is pumped into our oceans, along with the plastic wrap they come in. These are a great alternative: https://andkeep.com/products/washable-bamboo-cotton-round-make-up-pads-wash-bag-16-mixed-texture?variant=16899935338567&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-8L1kbXQ4wIVFODtCh2Lywz1EAQYAiABEgKu-_D_BwE
- Stop buying 5p bags!!: I am sure this has deterred some people, but there are so many that still buy them every time they go shopping. Not only does that 5p add up each time (or more if you are doing a big shop), these bags are a complete waste of plastic. Fabric ones are a great alternative!
